due to a schedule conflict. Philip Gaines made the motion to ask
alternate Frances Christian to take her place, which was seconded
by Linda Aldy and approved unanimously. Oscar Hartman has indicated
he does not wish to serve as an alternate and Al Doty agreed to
take his place at the request of the vestry. Paul provided the vestry
with copies of resolutions that would be presented at Annual Council.
Rector's
Report.
Buildings:
Paul Pradat began his report by noting that the church building
situation is a 'conundrum' due to the need to have more space to
accommodate expected growth in membership and the need for more
financial support from more members to build additional space. He
expects to have designer Terry Eason visit soon. Bishop Gray has
offered assistance with the planning process. The Long Range Planning
Committee has been reactivated with Charles Warwick as chair. Paul
has asked Chuck Peel and Gibson Sims to join the committee. Paul
is looking at adding more services with perhaps a Saturday night
service and a full service on Wednesday night. The 7:30 a.m. Sunday
service has started again this month and will potentially help some
of the morning crowding.
Communications:
Paul reported that he had met recently with the newly formed Communications
Committee. (Craig Carter, Brad Ewing, Ted Hill, Barbara McDonald,
Lisa Shive) The group will be looking at all forms of church communications-website,
bulletins, newsletter, signs--to develop a cohesive, eye appealing
look for all. A new tri-fold bulletin is being considered. There
have been initial talks with a sign company to create signs to help
visitors and new members in particular find their way. Pictures
are being taken for a new pictorial directory. A welcome packet
needs to be created.
Education:
Paul and David Christian are looking at ways to strengthen adult
education. Paul wants to offer more educational opportunities on
Wednesday nights. He is looking into special programming during
Lent and activities for children on Wednesday nights. He hopes to
get Catechesis of the Good Shepherd underway and is looking at reworking
Children's Church. Paul told the vestry he and some others from
the Chapel will be attending a conference in Memphis next month,
Strategies for Church Growth, to particularly learn methods to welcome
and involve newcomers.
