Vestry
members present: John Sewell, Rector; Ann Homer Cook, Senior Warden;

Files; Oscar Hartman; Don Long; Brooks Mosley; and David Wilson.
Others present: David Christian, Associate Rector; Dale Marcum,
Consultant; and Jeannine Barrett, Clerk.
David
Christian opened the meeting at 6:15 p.m. with prayers and meditation.
Ann
Homer Cook presided over the meeting.
Treasurer's
Report. The Operating Budget vs Actual for January through October
2001 was distributed and various portions of same were discussed
by Dale Marcum. Dale Marcum outlined the steps necessary to sell
the mutual funds owned by the Chapel, the first of which being a
resolution by the Vestry to authorize the sale. Brooks Mosley made
a motion for a resolution authorizing Trace Swartzfager, as Treasurer,
to sell the Van Kampen Investments Pace Fund mutual funds. Oscar
Hartman seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. Dale Marcum
distributed reports on the preliminary figures for 2001 Day in the
Country, broken down booth-by-booth. Ann Homer Cook mentioned that
several people have expressed an interest in knowing about proceeds
of Day in the Country and she would like to have the final reports
posted on the bulletin board, as well as published in Cross Currents
when they are available. Dale Marcum reported that the Audit Committee
has been working on the audit and that they auditors are scheduled
to visit the Chapel office soon for that portion of the audit.
Updates
on items of old business were given: David Wilson reported that
the new sacristy door has been installed. The final cost of the
door was approximately $1,700. Ann Homer Cook reported that cemetery
fence has not been completed due to the death of the father of the
man who was working on the fence; however, she has been advised
that the fence will be completed in the near future.
Approval
of Minutes: Discussion was held regarding two corrections to be
made to the September minutes. Don Long made a motion that the minutes
be approved as corrected. Suzanne Files seconded the motion and
it passed unanimously.
BUSINESS
Selection
of Nominating Committee At-Large Members. Names of six parishoners
were drawn as potential at-large members of the Nominating Committee.
The names drawn were: Angela Rhemann, Nell Floyd, Nelwyn Madison,
Emily Barfield, Joyce Aron, and Fran Armstrong. These persons will
be asked to serve on the Committee, one-by-one, in order of the
names drawn, until two people accept the positions. Ann Homer Cook
reported that Trace Swartzfager has asked that someone else be selected
as Treasurer for next year. The qualifications for Vestry members
were discussed. Ann Homer Cook advised that anyone interested in
being a Warden should let one of the Vestry members know of their
interest so that the Nominating Committee can be made aware of same.
Ann Homer Cook pointed out the importance of the new Vestry members
and Wardens elected, especially since the Parish is at a critical
time of growth.
Stewardship
Campaign Update. It was reported that in connection with the stewardship
campaign, a list has been compiled of people who have not turned
in pledge cards for this year. The percentage of pledge cards turned
in is good compared to previous years. The people who have not turned
in pledge cards will be contacted and reminded to do so. Brooks
Mosley mentioned that an announcement regarding a reminder about
pledge cards should be made at upcoming services and any Vestry
members present should make sure that such an annoucement is made
or make it themselves.
Assignment
of a Curate to the Chapel. John Sewell reported that the Bishop
has approached the Chapel about assigning a Curate for training.
A handout was distributed outlining budgeting for the expenses involved
with a Curate being assigned and it was pointed out that in the
event the Chapel decides to accept a Curate the expenses for same
will need to be put into the budget at the next meeting. Various
points about regarding the Curate, including: process of selection,
duties, deadline for a decision by the Chapel whether or not to
accept the assignment were discussed.
Contribution
to Naitonal Altar Guild Scholarship Fund. Copies of a letter from
Judy McLarty, President of the National Altar Guild Association,
addressed to Ann Homer Cook requesting a donation for the scholarship
program were distributed. Discussion regarding the scholarship was
held, during which John Sewell pointed out that it is a great honor
to have a Chapel of the Cross parishoner in this position. David
Wilson made a motion that the Vestry approve a $2,000 donation to
be given to the National Altar Guild Scholarship Fund. Suzanne Files
seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
OTHER
NEW BUSINESS
Al
Doty pointed out that the sign at the entrance to the Chapel should
be replaced. Tom Bobbitt has previously offered to donate a new
sign. Brooks Mosley and John Sewell offered to arrange for having
the sign delivered and Al Doty offered to make arrangements for
having the sign installed.
Ann
Homer Cook advised that any of the Vestry members who would like
to look at the Deweese house and garage apartment following the
meeting were welcome to.
Oscar
Hartman made a motion that the meeting be adjourned. Brooks Mosley
seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned
at 7:15 p.m.
