Meeting Minutes
April

Vestry
members present: Oscar Hartman, Senior Warden; Scott Carter,

Others

David
Christian opened the meeting with a meditation.
Oscar
Hartman presided over the meeting. He introduced and welcomed Susan
Lawrence, the new youth representative to the vestry.
BUSINESS:
Approval
of Minutes. Philip Gaines made a motion to approve the minutes
as written. Suzanne Files seconded the motion and the motion carried
unanimously.
Treasurer's
Report. Steve Downs presented financials for the first quarter
of 2003.
Restricted
and Designated Funds Policy. Aileen McNeill presented the proposed
policy previously provided to the vestry members for review. After
discussion, Sherry Mosley made a motion to adopt the policy. Al
Doty seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously.
Commission
Reports. Suzanne Files updated the vestry on the Christian Service
Commission's activities. Frank Spencer is overseeing the Servant
Ministry Committee until a chairperson is appointed. Gift Certificates
and Easter baskets are being sent to the boys at St. Michael's School.
Angela Rhemann is in charge of this project.
Al
Doty reported on the Christian Growth Commission. He announced Ruby
Medlin, Children's Education chairperson, is the new chairperson
for the Nursery Committee. A new Youth Formation Committee has been
formed with Barbara McDonald as chairperson. The committee has prepared
and is mailing out a parent survey. A parents' meeting is being
planned. A question was asked about insurance coverage for youth
trips and Scott Carter offered to look at the policy details.
The
Christian Stewardship Commission report was given by David Wilson.
He told the group that there had been some roof damage after the
recent high winds and hailstorm; some trees were blown down. The
damaged arch on the gate is being repaired. An insurance adjuster
is coming out to look at the roofs. David reported a foundation
company had been working on the foundation of the Dewees House.
Youth
Representative: Susan Lawrence reported the senior high youth
were going on a tubing day trip on the Bogue Chitto on the upcoming
Saturday. She said she and other senior high youth are busy getting
ready for the Honduras mission trip. They've been getting the required
inoculations and sponsoring several fundraisers. They have had a
dog and car wash that raised $761 and have a change drive going
on and an Italian Dinner and Talent Show coming up April 30.
Clergy
Report: David Christian related that Holy Week activities were
coming along well and parishioner volunteers were taking care of
the Maundy Thursday silent meal and Easter afternoon party details.
He noted there would be a large number of confirmations this year.
The Reverend Ruth Black will be here for the 7:30 a.m. Easter service
and overflow crowds at 8:45 and 11:00 a.m. will be accommodated
in the parish hall with a video hookup.
It
was discussed that the Search Committee's activities appear to be
proceeding well.
David
thanked the vestry for all the good wishes and prayers while he
was out sick.
Oscar
Hartman noted that the church is at the end of the year's first
quarter in good shape and asked the vestry to be thinking of ideas
for involving all the new members.
Scott
Carter announced that a cleaning service had been found to help
James Jackson with the cleaning. They will come Monday, Wednesday
and Friday for less than was allocated for a part-time housekeeper.
The
meeting was adjourned with a prayer by David Christian at 8:00p.m.
The
next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 21.
