BUSINESS:

Approval of Minutes. Philip Gaines made a motion to approve the minutes as written. Suzanne Files seconded the motion and the motion carried unanimously.

Treasurer's Report. Steve Downs presented financials for the first quarter of 2003.

Restricted and Designated Funds Policy. Aileen McNeill presented the proposed policy previously provided to the vestry members for review. After discussion, Sherry Mosley made a motion to adopt the policy. Al Doty seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously.

Commission Reports. Suzanne Files updated the vestry on the Christian Service Commission's activities. Frank Spencer is overseeing the Servant Ministry Committee until a chairperson is appointed. Gift Certificates and Easter baskets are being sent to the boys at St. Michael's School. Angela Rhemann is in charge of this project.

Al Doty reported on the Christian Growth Commission. He announced Ruby Medlin, Children's Education chairperson, is the new chairperson for the Nursery Committee. A new Youth Formation Committee has been formed with Barbara McDonald as chairperson. The committee has prepared and is mailing out a parent survey. A parents' meeting is being planned. A question was asked about insurance coverage for youth trips and Scott Carter offered to look at the policy details.

The Christian Stewardship Commission report was given by David Wilson. He told the group that there had been some roof damage after the recent high winds and hailstorm; some trees were blown down. The damaged arch on the gate is being repaired. An insurance adjuster is coming out to look at the roofs. David reported a foundation company had been working on the foundation of the Dewees House.

Youth Representative: Susan Lawrence reported the senior high youth were going on a tubing day trip on the Bogue Chitto on the upcoming Saturday. She said she and other senior high youth are busy getting ready for the Honduras mission trip. They've been getting the required inoculations and sponsoring several fundraisers. They have had a dog and car wash that raised $761 and have a change drive going on and an Italian Dinner and Talent Show coming up April 30.

Clergy Report: David Christian related that Holy Week activities were coming along well and parishioner volunteers were taking care of the Maundy Thursday silent meal and Easter afternoon party details. He noted there would be a large number of confirmations this year. The Reverend Ruth Black will be here for the 7:30 a.m. Easter service and overflow crowds at 8:45 and 11:00 a.m. will be accommodated in the parish hall with a video hookup.

It was discussed that the Search Committee's activities appear to be proceeding well.

David thanked the vestry for all the good wishes and prayers while he was out sick.

Oscar Hartman noted that the church is at the end of the year's first quarter in good shape and asked the vestry to be thinking of ideas for involving all the new members.

Scott Carter announced that a cleaning service had been found to help James Jackson with the cleaning. They will come Monday, Wednesday and Friday for less than was allocated for a part-time housekeeper.

The meeting was adjourned with a prayer by David Christian at 8:00p.m.

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 21.
