Ann
Homer Cook presided over the meeting.
This
special meeting of the Vestry was held in connection with the 2002
budget. Ann Homer Cook and Oscar Hartman outlined the current status
of the budget deficit. The deficit currently stands at $64,000 for
2002. By year-end, without a change, the deficit would be approximately
$100,000.
Options
regarding the budget were presented and discussed, including:
- Cutting
items on the budget;
- Not
cutting items on the budget;
- Continue
operating as is and use available reserves;
- A
combination of cutting the budget and using reserves;
- Using
volunteers for positions that are currently contract status;
- Assume
increased giving in November and December will adjust the budget.
A discussion
was held regarding what items on the budget might be reduced and
ways that income might be increased. Ann Homer Cook asked for ideas
on what percentage of the reserves might be utilized.
It
was suggested that a meeting with the Committee Chairs be called
to get ideas as to what items might be cut without seriously compromising
programs. The figure discussed as a goal for the cuts was $20,000.
It
was decided that the following budget items would be cut immediately:
- Seminary
pledge;
- Diocesan
pledge;
- $1,000
for vestry retreat;
- Supply
priests - cut to $2,000 instead of $3,000
- The
Rector's Discretionary Fund can be cut some.
It
was decided that a meeting for the vestry, committee chairs and
Stewardship Committee will be scheduled for Sunday, July 28, 2002
in order to work on the budget further.
Ann
Homer Cook presented a renewal of the contract with David Cox for
the sale of a parcel of land belonging to the Chapel at the asking
price of $24,400. Don Long made a motion that the contract be accepted.
Al Doty seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
The
meeting was adjourned at 2:00 p.m. with prayer.
