she heads which also includes Ann Homer Cook and Anne Mollere, with

Executive Session, the vestry then went into its regular meeting.
Approval
of Minutes. Linda Aldy made the motion to approve the July minutes
as written. Suzanne Files seconded the motion and the motion carried
unanimously.
Commission
Reports. Al Doty reported on the activities of the Christian
Growth Commission. The upgrades to the nursery rooms are mostly
complete. Rugs in the Education Building are being cleaned. Ruby
Medlin and Lee Ann Bryan have been working on readying the rooms
for Sunday School classes to begin after Labor Day. Catechist training
has begun and Ruby Medlin is encouraging any interested adults to
visit at least part of a training. More teachers are needed. During
the summer the adult Sunday School classes have met together. There
will be two classes and a weekday Bible study class again in the
fall. The Youth Formation Committee has met and has discussed various
issues, funding for youth programs and plans to make up the deficits
from the 2003 youth trips. The committee will report to the vestry
about its efforts and plans. Budget requests and trip plans will
come through the committee to the vestry for approval. A 'thank
you' reception is planned for August 20 to express appreciation
for the youth leaders. Adult and Children's Choir practices will
start up soon. Stuart Burgess updated the vestry on the Luau draw-down
ticket sales with 110-120 sold to date. Plans for the event are
proceeding well and crews will begin cooking Thursday night.
Suzanne
Files reported on the activities of the Christian Service Commission.
Wednesday Night Suppers will begin on August 20. David Conn reported
that he has found a new cook and will work closely with her to ensure
good meals while monitoring the costs. Philip Gaines reported the
Servant Ministry Committee is meeting monthly and Stephanie Bell
is the new youth representative on the committee. Tony Risher is
coordinating Chapel volunteers for a Habitat for Humanity project
in October. Gaines said the committee is looking for more 'hands
on' ministries for church members to get involved in. The committee
is also looking to support more Madison-area ministries. Servant
Ministry has made donations to several ministries with the largest
going to Madison County Stewpot.
David
Wilson reported on the activities of the Christian Stewardship Commission.
The Education Building second floor project is well underway. A
number of volunteers painted the rooms over the weekend. Susan Lawrence
said the youth want to come up with a plan for a mural. Scott Carter
reported the new air conditioning in the chapel is finished and
there is a noticeable difference. A $10,000 donation is expected
toward the cost. Carter reported that Chris and Mandy Russell are
moving out of the Dewees House and Billy Kuhn is vacating the garage
apartment. He has discussed planting a border along Gluckstadt Road
with landscape committee chairman, Herman Crowder. It was also suggested
the existing post and chain border on the Chapel grounds could be
repeated on the Dewees property. Roof repairs will be postponed
at least until cooler weather. Oscar Hartman reported discussions
continue regarding stabilization of the Dewees House.
Choir
Chairs. Al Doty has received a request from the choir for 12
chairs to replace the metal folding chairs they have been using.
He displayed one option costing $2,064. The vestry decided to table
a decision and solicit the advice of an interior designer. David
Christian will contact Dorothy King.

She said a DOY weekend is coming up September 19-21 and she and
Charlie Christian from the Chapel are on the DOY Council. Council
Training is August 29-31. She said Nat Duncan will be meeting soon
with the leaders of Rite 13 and J2A to plan for the fall. He will
be leading the YAC group. Lawrence also said a group of youth are
assisting with planning programs and events and they hope for more
coordination between the Sunday morning programs and EYC.
Clergy
Report. David Christian reported he is making himself available
to talk to any parishioners concerned about General Convention.
He said around 50 people came to the 10:00 a.m. discussion time
last Sunday. He is planning a mailing that will include copies of
Bishop Gray's statements and information about planned public meetings
and appearances. He anticipates offering a class after Labor Day
on the Bible and Sexuality. It was asked if Bishop Gray could come
to the Chapel and David will look into it. There was general discussion
about reactions to General Convention decisions and implications
for the Chapel.
