and David Wilson.

Ann
Homer Cook presided over the meeting.
BUSINESS:
Endorsement of Application for Renewal of Lay Readers’ Licenses.
Ann Homer Cook reported that the Vestry must endorse applications
for renewal of Diocesan lay readers’ licenses. Brooks Mosley made
a motion that the applications for renewal of Diocesan lay readers’
licenses be endorsed. Don Long seconded the motion and it passed
unanimously.
New
Chapel Banner. Ann Homer Cook distributed copies of a memo from
Judy McLarty requesting approval for the Altar Guild to have a new
banner made for the Chapel. David Christian reported to the Vestry
that a Parishioner who previously moved out of state and who returned
to be married in the Chapel recently was due a $200 refund for the
music fee for the wedding. The person had indicated that the refund
was not necessary and David Christian suggested that the person
be contacted to determine whether the $200 could be used for the
cost of a new banner for the Chapel, with an inscription to be put
on the back of the banner indicating the donation. Linda Ross Aldy
made a motion that the Vestry authorize a new banner to be made
for the Chapel, with the provision that the person who was due a
refund for the music fee from a wedding be given the opportunity
to donate the amount of the refund for the banner and be given credit
for that donation on the back of the banner. Brooks Mosley seconded
the motion and it passed unanimously.
Date
for Annual Parish Meeting. Ann Homer Cook reminded the Vestry
that the proposed date for the 2003 Annual Parish Meeting is January
12, 2003. The Vestry members present indicated that this date was
acceptable with each of them.
Discussion
of Results from October Listening Sessions. Ann Homer Cook advised
that there were two (2) listening sessions in October, both of which
had a relatively small number of people in attendance. At the first
listening session on Sunday, David Wilson made a request that the
tenor for the choir be rehired. During a discussion of the matter,
it was suggested that possibly Ed Dacus could pay the salaries of
the tenor and bass singers out of his budget for the remainder of
2002 and then address the issue of the 2003 salaries when the budget
is set. Some of the Vestry members expressed an interest in having
a choir at the 8:45 services and the suggestion was made to possibly
have a youth ensemble some of the time. Ann Homer Cook asked that
the Committee get together with Ed Dacus and explore the possibility
of hiring the bass and tenor singers for the rest of 2002 and see
what could be done for a choir at the 8:45 services. Don Long made
a motion that the bass and tenor singers be rehired for the remainder
of 2002 and be considered in the budget for 2003. Brooks Mosley
seconded the motion. Also at the Sunday listening session, Jan Smith
attended to express her thanks to the leadership and Vestry. At
the Wednesday listening session, Charles Warwick expressed an interest
in involving the youth in more of the fund-raising campaigns. Melissa
Cavett asked that there be more teachings about Jesus available
and asked that the Search Committee be aware that this is important
in the consideration of a new Rector.
Financial
Report. Ann Homer Cook reported that 92 pledge cards have been
turned in as of November 13: 88 pledge totaling $336,482 and 4 non-pledge.
Ann Homer Cook distributed handouts of the Operating Budget vs.
Actual for January through October 2002 and the DITC Profit and
Loss January through October 2002. During a discussion of the handouts,
there was a request that the monthly expense and income information
be added to the monthly report. That request will be relayed to
Dale Marcum and he will be asked to be at next month’s meeting so
that questions about the report can be addressed. Scott Carter reported
that the Finance Committee will meet with Dale Marcum prior to the
December meeting. As a matter of clarification from the October
meeting, it was reported that the Diocesan pledge amount was 13%;
however it actually stands at 14%.
Approval
of Minutes. The October minutes were approved as submitted.
Possibility
of Offering Dave Ramsay’s Financial Peace University. Suzanne
Files was asked by a person who asked to remain anonymous that it
was the feeling of some parishioners that an announcement regarding
the Dave Ramsay program which was made at the 11:00 service the
prior Sunday was inappropriate.
Policy
on Requests for Funds. Ann Homer Cook distributed a Draft Fund
Raising Policy which was drafted in response to concerns that some
people have expressed regarding some of the announcements being
made during the services. After discussion regarding various guidelines
to be followed pertaining to announcements, Oscar Hartman made a
motion that there be no announcements from the floor, that all announcements
are to be made by the Rector, unless invited and introduced by the
Rector. After further discussion, David Wilson seconded the motion
and it passed unanimously.
NON-AGENDA
ITEMS:
Ann Homer Cook announced that the Nomination Committee consists
of: Glenn Smith, Heber Simmons, Debbie Rayner and the Vestry members
who will be going off the Vestry.
Oscar
Hartman presented the question of whether the Vestry needs to pre-approve
things such as the youth mission trip. Ann Homer Cook advised the
Vestry that things such as this should go through the Commission
and the Vestry should at least be made aware of them before they
are presented to the Parish. David Christian will talk with Nat
Duncan to make him aware of this fact for future reference.
The
meeting was adjourned with prayer.
