Committees
There's
a job for EVERYONE at A Day in the Country. Browse through these
to see where you would like to volunteer. Click here for contact information for the various committee chairs. Volunteers are needed to
pitch in lots of ways before, during and after the event. You
don’t have to have special skills, we’ll find a job for you.
There are things that need to be happening right now, so please call
the Chapel office at 601.856.2593 to get an assignment.
Silent
Auction
We need donations from all area businesses and vendors to make this
a success.
Food
Booth
This huge operation needs at least 50 persons in order to feed the
hungry crowds that attend the festival. Cooking experience is not
required. There's a multitude of jobs from stirring huge pots of
baked beans to assembling sandwiches to flipping burgers to keeping
the condiments table well-stocked to taking up the money. Early
festival-goers eat as early as 10:00 a.m., so come early to help
get ready. Volunteers are also needed on Friday to set up the outdoor
kitchen.
T-Shirts
Each year everyone eagerly anticipates the unveiling of the DITC
t-shirt to see what unique design has been created. Shirts will soon be
on sale in hopes that all workers will be wearing a DITC shirt the
day of the festival to show visitors whom they can count on for
info. Volunteers are needed to sell shirts the day of the event.
Grounds,
Set-Up, Security
On Friday before the festival, garbage containers will be placed
throughout the festival grounds with trash collected periodically
on Saturday.
Breakfast
Booth
The early-bird crew provides breakfast for the volunteer workers
and craftspeople beginning at 6:30 a.m. They offer hot coffee, juices,
muffins, and hot cider if a cool snap comes through.
Parking
This is a monumental job and needs lots of volunteers to direct
cars in and out, collect parking fees, help load visitors on the
hayrides and drive the tractors for the hay rides.
Bank
The bank staff have the tedious job of keeping all financial records
in order for the day. Everyone always wants to know how much his
booth raised. The bank staff ask that all committee chairpersons
pick up their moneyboxes between 8:00 - 8:30 Saturday morning from
the "bank" in the Education Building. The bankers will
periodically collect cash from the booths throughout the day.
Medical
Station
The medical team will be set up for minor emergencies in the corner
office formerly occupied by the Rector in the Parish Hall, and an
ambulance will be on-site - hopefully, none of their services will
be needed. Dr. Hal Flowers will once again operate this important
service.
Bake
Booth, Country Store, 63-Egg Cake and Bread
Country Store
Start bringing to the Parish Hall your jellies, jams, salsa, pickles,
preserves, etc. to be sold in the Country Store. We will be letting
you know about cooking times when volunteers are needed.
Bake
Booth
This booth is always a favorite with our visitors. All Chapel members
are encouraged to bake your favorite pies, cakes, cupcakes, cookies,
candies, muffins and breads.
Bread-Making
Sign up for a baking session and sample hot loaves right out of
the oven! The crew will start baking a day or two before DITC and
they "KNEAD" your help in the Chapel kitchen. If you have
borrowed any bread pans or buckets, they need to be returned.
63-Egg
Cake
The award-winning 63-Egg Cake is a DITC tradition. It usually sells
out quickly, so please bake a cake or two. Don't despair, you don't
really need 63 eggs - we have an 11-egg version for the angel food
size cakes. The good thing about the cakes is that they freeze well,
so they can be baked in advance of the big day. A team of Chapel
cooks will make the actual 63-Egg giant cake, so be sure and stop
by the booth to see this beautifully decorated masterpiece. The
cakes are generally sold by the slice, so volunteers are needed
to wrap the slices early Saturday morning. Call the church office
for the recipe. Drop your cakes off Friday or early Saturday morning
in the Parish Hall.
Chapel
Tours and Cemetery Tours
Tours of the Chapel and cemetery will be conducted between 10 a.m.
and 3 p.m. to showcase our rich and colorful history. Listen for
the Chapel bell which will ring five minutes before each tour.
Crafts
and Vendors
There will be many quality vendors exhibiting items such as antiques,
pottery, hand-made baskets, jewelry and clothing. DITC has acquired
a reputation for inviting only topnotch craftsmen. Volunteers will
be needed on Friday to assist chairperson Claudia Mangum in marking
off craftsmen spaces, and many vendors will arrive and start setting
up on Friday. On Saturday, volunteers are needed early to check
in the vendors, some of who arrive before daylight.
Nursery
Workers with young children can feel at ease taking care of their
DITC duties while their children are well looked after in our Nursery
which will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Please bring lunch
for your child, and mark any toys or other items you bring.
Entertainment
This year's entertainment arranged by John Hamman features superb
performers, some from the Chapel community.
Control
and Welcome Center
This vital service will be headquartered in the Parish Hall. All
workers are asked to check in first thing and get a nametag. This service helps quickly locate anyone needed in
an emergency. The Center needs shift workers beginning at 6 a.m.
This is a great job if you like to sit down in an air-conditioned
area.
Drink
Booth
This is a favorite place for the kids to work!
Chapel Attic
Start going through your attic and boxing up your treasures for
the Chapel Attic - no clothing please. Just because you never use
that bread machine or lamp your mother-in-law gave you doesn't mean
there isn't someone who would enjoy it.
Kids Kountry
This very popular and busy children's area includes Goofy Golf,
pony rides, ferris wheel, carnival games and a Velcro wall. Chair
Leslie LeDoux needs LOTS of volunteers to take tickets, help the
children participate in the activities and to lead the ponies around
the ring.
Junk Food Booth
This booth needs lots of help with the task of serving nachos, popcorn,
sno-cones, lemonade and other goodies.
Clean-Up
On Sunday after the festival, all members are asked to participate
in clean-up following the morning Eucharist. Lunch will be provided.
