From
the Organ Bench
- a Special Message from Ed Dacus
There
are some new things going on in the music area of the Chapel. We
have formed an informal adult choir for the 8:45 service to lead
the congregational singing of that service. We sit as a group in
the pews facing the organ. If you are interested in participating,
just come at 8:20 a.m. on Sunday mornings. We will meet in the Chapel
and rehearse the music for the service for that day.
We
have been using the new hymnal supplement, Wonder, Love, and
Praise, in the 8:45 service. This is a fine collection of many
different types of music that is enhancing that service.
The
Children's music program provides opportunities for various age
groups. We are fortunate to have expert leadership by motivated
and talented teachers. The preschool choir, ages 3-5, is under the
direction of Viola Dacus, who teaches the children easy spiritual
songs as well as introduces principles of music at an introductory
level.
The
1st and 2nd grade choir is directed by Jennifer Hartsill, one of
the finest young music educators in our area. As well as learning
music appropriate for that level, children in this choir build on
basic principles learned in the preschool choir and complements
music classes in school. This choir continues what was begun in
the preschool and 1st/2nd grade choirs, and continues solfeg as
a more advanced level than the younger choirs.
