Worship
Worship
services don't just happen - there are many people working to prepare
for the services, to assist during the services and to ready the
Chapel for in-between times. Opportunities abound for members from
age 10 up with a job to fit most every talent. Some activities require
special skills, some require only a little training and your time
- one of the best gifts you can give to the church. If you are interested
in participating in any of the following activities, please contact
the Chapel office.
Acolytes
Most services use four acolytes - a crucifer, a server, an alms
basin, and a junior acolyte. The alms basin and junior acolyte carry
the torches, the crucifer carries the cross, the server carries
the Gospel book during the Gospel procession and assists in preparation
of the altar for communion, and the alms basin is in charge of the
alms basins during the offertory. Acolytes are generally children
age 10 and up, but adults are also welcome as acolytes are often
needed for daytime services when children are not available. Training
is provided for all levels of acolyte. Special Note: We
had almost 30 young people attend the training on Saturday, August
24. Some were updating their skills, and several new acolytes were
trained. We will be plugging them into the volunteer schedule starting
in October. Thanks, parents, for helping them serve!
Adult
acolytes are also needed. Contact Tom Fanning or Keith Obert to
arrange a special training session.
Children's
Church
Our children age 3-5 are encouraged to attend Children's Church
during the 8:45 and 11:00 a.m. services. The children come to the
worship service in time for Communion. Volunteers are needed to
make up the teaching teams. Lesson materials relating to the Scripture
readings for the regular worship service are provided.
Lay
Eucharist Ministers (LEMs)
Lay Eucharist Ministers provide Communion to those persons who cannot
attend worship services. The service is available both in homes
and hospitals.
The
box containing the Communion elements are prepared by the Altar
Guild and placed on the altar at the beginning of a service. During
the Holy Eucharist portion of the service, these elements are blessed
along with those used during the service. At the conclusion of the
service, a Lay Eucharist Minister comes forward from the congregation
to receive the box and to go immediately to homes or hospitals to
deliver communion and greetings from the Chapel family. A special
service has been written for use during the communion. LEMS will
also give the person receiving communion a copy of the day's sermon
and a bulletin.
Anyone
desiring to have communion delivered is asked to notify the Chapel
office. The LEM scheduler will call to arrange a convenient time
to deliver the sacrament.
LEMs
also participate during services in the Chapel as chalice bearers
serving the wine during communion and leading the Prayers of the
People in the absence of the deacon.
Lectors
Lectors read the Bible lessons at each of the services. The readings
are sent out in advance so that you can practice.
Ushers
Ushers greet arriving worshipers, assist in seating, pass the alms
basins during the offertory and direct worshipers during communion.
