Honduran Children

These are some of the Chapel-sponsored children who attend school in Los Caminos.

Please Help A Honduran Child Get An Education

The voice of the needs of the Honduran people has been heard very loudly at Chapel of the Cross and in Jackson, Mississippi, for the past several years. The Honduran people have not been shouting loudly, they are too polite and sweet a people for that, rather, like Jesus in the Gospel, we have heard the call of their needs personally, loudly and persistently, and we have responded. Now, Melvin Flores of Salt and Light Ministries, who has coordinated our Honduran Mission trips and has become a friend of many in the Jackson area, has given us the names and pictures of Honduran children of poverty-stricken families (most with single parent or living with single grandparent) who, because of poverty, will not be able to attend school this year without sponsors.

The question for those of us who read this appeal and are able to help is: "Do you choose to help?" Is Christ going to act through you to help cure one of the crippling illnesses of the nation of Honduras - a lack of education because of abject poverty? Is Christ calling to you to act as His living body in this effort?

Please help to break this cycle of poverty and illiteracy in these children's families by sponsoring one of these children for a year of school for $275.

To sponsor a child, simply make your check payable to Chapel of the Cross and note "Honduran School Scholarships" and identify the child you wish to sponsor (if you are not a Chapel member, make your check payable to your own church and ask them to coordinate with Chapel staff at 856-2593). The child's address and picture will be sent to you, and you will receive a thank-you letter from the child at a later date. You will be able to correspond with the child, and Melvin will arrange for you to visit the child if you attend one of the Chapel Mission trips to Honduras or one of the other mission trips from other Jackson churches.
