Hope
Community Credit Union
Hope
Community Credit Union was formed in 1995 by Anderson United Methodist
Church to create an alternative source of credit to people usually
forced to borrow from high-priced loan companies or cash-for-title
companies.
The
stated mission is to empower its members and the Jackson inner city
community to improve their financial condition by providing financial
services and serving as an economic resource. Because of these very
worthwhile goals, the Chapel of the Cross Servant Ministry Committee
adopted support of Hope as one of its continuing projects.
In
its initial years, Hope had slow growth but the original dream has
been revived as the Fellowship of Hope Ministries (FHM) and the
Metro Amos Network have assumed leadership roles in revitalizing
Hope and have breathed new life into the credit union. The Chapel
is an active member of the Metro Amos Network. Together FHM and
Amos have reorganized the Hope Board of Directors and are actively
seeking financial support for Hope from their faith-based membership,
which included 50 churches in excess of 50,000 individual members.
As
a credit union chartered by the State of Mississippi, all deposits
in Hope are fully insured by the federally chartered National Credit
Union Association up to $100,000.
The
Chapel was able to join the Hope Community Credit Union through
a donation by Shane and Michelle Langston. Numerous other Jackson
area churches are following suit to strengthen and broaden this
institution.
Chapel
members may join by paying $30. The first $5 of that fee is a tax-deductible
membership and the remaining $25 is deposited into your credit union
share account. Deposits can be made in person at the office at Suite
370-B in the Jackson Medical Mall, by automatic bank draft, or by
payroll deduction if your employer so offers. Interest rates on
both deposits and loans are competitive with area credit unions.
By
saving in this Credit Union, you will build the asset base and enable
Hope to use a portion of these assets to serve underprivileged,
higher risk individuals.
