SERMONS

Ash Wednesday
February 25, 2004

The season of Lent is a call to a time of self-examination, as individuals and as a community of faith. It is a challenge to set aside the prejudices and preconceptions that so often cloud our vision. It is an opportunity to become that which we already are but sometimes forget, the body of Christ. I would invite, or maybe challenge is a better word. I would challenge each of us to take advantage of the opportunity to make the spiritual journey that is Lent. To openly and honestly consider what we are becoming or failing to become in light of who God through the person and the example of Jesus calls us to be. It's not always fun, in fact, it can be painful, difficult work. But if ashes are at the start of it, then something wonderful, like resurrection and new life, has to be at the end.
